A short film submitted by a Mexican director clinched the best film award of
the International Student Shorts Awards themed "Better City, Better Life" among
24 entries at the ongoing Shanghai International Film Festival.
The 16-minute Reality Show, submitted by Federico Schmucler from a Mexico
film college, was crowned the best film, while the Happy Birthday Yemime, a film
directed by Yishai Orian T that depicts the lives of ordinary Israeli people,
won the best director award.
Zhu Yonglei, deputy director general of the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo
Coordination, said youth directors signing up for the awards have shown their
great attention to urban lives with unique angles in their films and Expo 2010
would provide a platform for their growth.
A total of 462 film works were submitted by directors from 21 countries and
regions to compete for the awards.
The Shanghai International Film Festival opened on June 14 and will wrap up
tomorrow.
