The Macau Special Administrative Region signed a participation contract with
World Expo 2010 organizers today.
Shanghai's vice mayor Yang Xiong, briefed Francis Tam Pak Yuen, Macau's
Secretary for Economy and Finance, on the progress of the Expo preparations
before the signing ceremony.
Yang said the overall preparatory work of the event was running smoothly and
organizers will do their utmost to provide the best services to the
participants. The success of the Shanghai Expo needs support from participant
countries and organizations, Yang noted.
The secretary said the special region attaches great importance to its
participation at Expo 2010 and its preparatory work is well underway. The
signing of the deal marks the beginning of friendly cooperation between the two
sides, he added.
Macau has set up a preparatory office responsible for its exhibition at Expo
2010.
Provinces and cities in China will get 600 square meters each to showcase
their varied cultures and traditions. The exhibitions of national participants
will be held in a joint pavilion in the China Pavilion section with separate
pavilions for Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.
