Zhong Yanqun, fulltime deputy director of the World Expo 2010 Shanghai
Executive Committee, today met a delegation led by French Senate President
Christian Poncelet.
The delegation saw the master plan for the Expo site at Expo mansion and had
a bird's eye view atop the building.
Poncelet said World Expo Shanghai is a grand event for China as well as for
Shanghai. He said he believes that the event will promote friendship between the
two countries.
Zhong said France was among the earliest countries to confirm participation.
France has already unveiled its design for its national pavilion and asked for
comments from the Chinese public.
Zhong hoped the construction of the pavilion could start as soon as possible
and give visitors a surprise when the Expo 2010 opens.
Zhong also introduced transport and accommodation plans for the Expo site
during the meeting.
Poncelet is in Shanghai today to visit disabled Chinese torchbearer Jin Jing,
who was attacked by a Tibet separatist during the Paris leg of the Beijing
Olympic torch relay early this month.
Poncelet will remain in China until Sunday and was invited by top legislator
Wu Bangguo.
